Safety Pin
Activity: Find the extraordinary in the ordinary. Look around your home for a household item you see/use regularly. Really take a look at it. How was it made? Where was it made? Could you make one? What was involved in the process of creating this?
I found the safety pin above as I was re-attaching my son's lunch box handle. I stopped. Took a look. And really remembered that I find safety pins extraodinary. What about you?
I have an obsession with boxes. Mostly old beat up wooden ones, but I also have tin, stone, cardboard and woven ones. The more little compartments the better. Why is it that we have these facinations? I think that is part of being creative, seeing more than what is there!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting...I also wonder about the "metaphorical" meaning of things/objects we gather to ourselves. ( I love boxes too!)
ReplyDeleteFor me, it is a place to keep secrets, hold meaningful words, think about who may have used the box first...what do you think?
Yes, the old ones I have are especially intersting to ponder how their life may have played out until I got them! I like to make art pieces on the inside so you have to open the box to see it. I think I like the discovery part and the excitement of what you could find inside a box, or what I may fill it with...
